Phew, what a week!
It all started with my interview with Superman (aka Johnathan Belle) which was a great opportunity to talk about my branding business, Jumpstart, along with my geeky mom ways and art comeback. Aside from the crazy amount of “ya knows” I said and the occasional nervous laugh, (sorry Johnathan, I’ll work on that) I thought I didn’t do too shabby.
Throughout the rest of the week I had been putting my nose heavily into the grindstone to work on my branding projects for my business. Any of my down time, during the day, was devoted to TWO ongoing art challenges, for the month of May (yea I know, I’m nuts).
One is called #MechaMay.
My Mobile Suit Gundam drawing and the point when I felt good about the mixture of my watercolor and heavy inked areas to start to establish a style.
The other is #Mermay.
My #Mermay vampire inspired by the prompt item of the Red Toothed Tigerfish and the birth of another OC… :)
These two hashtags couldn’t be more different with drawing robots and mermaids, but it has really helped me loosen up my brain and finger tips with a good drawing range. Now you know how my week has gone, so let’s do a signature 80’s TV show flashback to Monday, again.
[Rewind tape effect]
Before I started my day on Monday, I looked at my good ol’ paper calendar to see business meetings/my son’s baseball game happenings there were, when I spotted something scribbled in for Friday…
And there it was.
One year ago today I had made the decision to start my drawing journey. It’s my Artiversary (yes, that’s totally a thing)!
I thought this would be a perfect time to take a look back at the earlier stages of my artwork.
Here is Kaname from Vampire Knight and one of my first line art pieces I did, last year. I can now see my shortcomings of erratic shading and no reasoning behind my heavy line placement.
Hmmm, maybe a redraw is in order?
My first cartoon-based drawing of my son! I loved this art piece and still feel good with it’s outcome, but it took me way too long to accomplish with it clocking in at three weeks to complete. Since the daily art challenges, I’m now a lot quicker at finishing my work.
And lastly, here’s a comparison image. Top one is of a Mr. T Rex sketch during my first art challenge (Inktober, 2018) and the bottom is the same, during my last art challenge I completed (MarchAbominations, 2019)
…aaaand Mr. T Rex, himself, retweeted the bottom one (high five).
Now that we have taken a quick stroll down memory lane, you may be thinking what’s in store for me in the future? Well, like any good hairdresser, it’s all about procrastinating with my own marketing materials as long as I can (chuckle). Actually, today I’m going to see my bestest friend in the universe and fellow creative pal, Annmarie.
My creative sister in crime. More about my Annie at a later date…
She will be casting spells and showing me her traditional print wizard magic on some amazing print material techniques so I can officially begin my commission artist status!
Stay tuned…
